Special Skills of the Spoken Word Artist:
Alliteration, Assonance, Sensory Detail, and Simile
A Youth Spoken Word Assignment by Mr. Gentry For Grade 11-12 English Class
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the four terms (Alliteration, Assonance, Sensory Detail, and Simile)* in three main ways.
1. By choosing one of a selection of five spoken word pieces and pulling out an example of each of the four terms.
2. By researching spoken word and then creating their own spoken word piece that includes at least one instance of 2-4 of the terms.
3. By listening to and reading at least two peers' pieces on SoundCloud and pulling out two examples from each piece.
Through these three tasks you will not only define these terms, but use higher order thinking skills to analyze how they work, formulate your own interpretations, and create your own examples.
*See "Term Toolbox" below for a refresher on the definitions.
